![]() I will complete a review of MacLoggerDX in future posts, but for now I thought I would explain my rationale of making the switch. I have concerns about not being able to store the setup program locally, in case they disappear. Program, New QSO, Modify QSO, 2way sync, On Air, Nets, Webcam, Contest score, Help & notes. And on the odd occasion I did venture into digital modes. Fldigi can easily connect to wfview using wfview’s built-in rigctld emulation. For the port, use 127.0.0.1:4534, replacing 4534 with your port as specified in wfview. This I completely agree with, and my time using HRD was always a great. The Radio Setting name is user-defined, set it as you wish. Amongst the re-tweets and comments i received, Danny (PA3DM) did mention that HRD is not just a logbook, but a full suite of digital modes, rotor and a rig control system. I actually purchased the MacLoggerDX program the same time I bought an IC-7300, MyAntennas EFHW-8010-2K, then S-Box, then ACOM 1200S, then ACOM 04AT Tuner. I recently tweeted that I had dropped Ham Radio Deluxe in favour for MacLoggerDX. I contacted Don Argo and was told that the upgrade was dropped mid 2010. Well, it didn't take long, but now running TOTAL STEALTH MODE (HOA). Its not HRD, its not an all in one solution, its a log book that can use the radios VFO, the rotor and DX cluster all together. When we moved to Delaware about 4 years ago into a small community, I didn't have a shack plan. So the solution ? well its not a solution to be fair. It’s a combination of all the elements tethered together that makes the experience unusable. Its not the fault of HRD, nor is it the fault of the Virtual Machine, The RS-232 - USB connectors. HRD over a Virtual Machine, using RS-232 connectors is unpredictable, slow and frankly unusable. This is because wfview runs some commands that may not be compatible with. ![]() In all cases, connect wfview to the radio first. For example, you can connect to your radio with wfview, and then connect fldigi and MacLoggerDX to wfview. I transitioned from PC to Mac around 3 years ago, and have been using a Virtual PC to do my PC based tasks (including my day job) and this is the issue. wfview provides several methods of sharing the control of your radio with other programs. This I completely agree with, and my time using HRD was always a great experience and I would recommend the software to anyone.
